Who are the judges?
The judges were also selected to fit the concept of the show, with one top figure from each field representing 'silver spoon' and 'dirt spoon' categories. Baek Jong-won, a culinary researcher and businessman with a background in the restaurant industry, can be said to represent the 'dirt spoon' category, while An Sung-jae, a Michelin 3-star chef famous for fine dining, represents the 'silver spoon' category.
The first appearance is quite amusing. When Baek Jong-won’s face is revealed, everyone immediately reacts with admiration since there isn't a person who doesn't recognize him. In fact, when you look at the chefs who were listed as 'silver spoons,' they included Michelin 1-star chefs by default, and even a former 3-star chef from the U.S., making the caliber astonishingly high. With masters like Yeo Kyung-rae and Choi Hyun-seok all being in the 'silver spoon' category, it was hard to imagine a domestic chef capable of judging them. Given the difficulty of finding another chef suitable for judging such top-tier chefs, it was easy for everyone to accept that Baek Jong-won, the pinnacle of the restaurant industry, would take on the role.
However, when An Sung-jae, who was standing next to Baek Jong-won, was revealed, some of the contestant chefs couldn’t recognize him, saying, 'Who is that?' or 'Who is he?' This was because he rarely appears on TV. But once it was explained that he was Korea's only Michelin 3-star chef, both the contestant chefs and the viewers fully accepted him. In terms of skill and experience, there are other chefs like Edward Lee and master chef Ahn Yoo-sung who could potentially compete with him, but the Michelin star's officially recognized authority was overwhelming.

Three Impressive Chefs Among the 80 'Underdog' Contestants
Undervalued
Among the 80 underdog contestants, Undervalued has gained widespread popularity with his charming appearance and boldness, having requested an evaluation from Chef An Sung-jae using only a single meat dish. Born in 1994, his real name is Park Jung-hyun. Due to his good looks, he also appeared on Love Catcher in Bali in 2022. Although his previously operated wine bar has closed, it is known that, driven by the popularity of Black-and-White Chef, he is preparing to open a new restaurant.
One Two Three
A former chef at the Michelin 3-star restaurant *Mosu*, **One Two Three** is said to be a disciple of Judge Chef An Sung-jae. His real name is Bae Kyung-jun. He is well-loved for his serious attitude towards food and is currently the chef at the wood-fire restaurant *Bonyon* in Nonhyeon-dong.
Hidden Genius
As someone who loves pasta, I can personally feel that Aglio e Olio, which is fundamental to pasta, is indeed a dish that is quite challenging to make deliciously. To truly determine if a restaurant is skilled in making pasta, one should order their Aglio e Olio. In this Black-and-White Chef competition, it was Hidden Genius who captured the hearts of Michelin star chefs with just this dish. From cooking the pasta to creating the dish through his unique process, he clearly stood out in his skills.
